Off the Beaten Path

As we drove along I-84 we passed a sign we had passed many times before.
One of those brown, landmark signs.
The ones we usually ignore.

Alligators at Miracle Hot Springs
18 miles on HWY 30.

It wasn't on the way.
It was actually very much out of the way.
But we had time and anxious kids.
So off we went.

These alligators were named, Dean, Lola, and Ilene.
That's what the sign said!

It was a small exhibit but the kids LOVED it.

I'd been to Miracle Hot Springs Before as a child.
It has sure changed a lot!
Natural pools and private pools.
Camp ground and camp DOMES.
We thought it would make a fun family reunion spot.

We left that area and headed off to another area of Idaho we have never visited:
Little City of Rocks

An ancient lava flow that created awesome formations.
It was easy to get to.
There were places to climb that challenged Daddy,
and places the kids felt adventurous climbing.
They would be walking along the side of a giant rock
and then discover that it suddenly opened up
to reveal a passageway to another giant rock.
We climbed and scrambled for hours!

Miracle Hot Springs and the alligators - that was one of my stomping grounds as a kid. My grandparents loved that place and took us there at least 4-5 times a year. My parents still hit the hot springs when they are feeling stiff and sore...I bet you guys had a great time. Isn't the Hagerman valley beautiful?
